Position: Academic Affairs Coordinator

Department: Office of the Provost

Status: Full Time

Position Summary:

The Academic Affairs Coordinator serves as the primary contact and initial resource for human subjects research investigators at Campbell University and partner organizations. A firm understanding of human subject research regulations as defined by federal, state, and university policies is crucial. In addition, this individual provides administrative support to the Wallace Fellows program and other award programs offered through the Office of the Provost.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Perform the following primary IRB functions:
    1. Facilitate the secure storage, review, and documentation of all human subjects research at Campbell University.
    2. Coordinate with the IRB chair and other members of the IRB to plan and execute all aspects of IRB function including implementation of the Human Research Protection Program; coordination of the monthly IRB meeting; and oral/written communication to research team members regarding all aspects of their research including clarification of protocols, regulatory/policy issues, and decisions of the IRB.
    3. Monitor the federal, state, and local regulatory environment by attending seminars, workshops, and conferences for the purpose of recommending changes, as needed, to the university and IRB chair.
  2. Provide administrative support to the Wallace Fellows Program, including meeting coordination, agenda preparation, and other activities as needed.
  3. Perform administrative tasks related to grant and award programs offered by the Office of the Provost.
  4. This position demands accuracy, honesty, integrity and the ability to work with the Christian mission of Campbell University.

Education/Experience:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must have knowledge in the interpretation of Federal and State regulations particularly regarding the protection of human subjects (to include working knowledge of Federal regulations for human research such as FERPA, HIPPA, and others: 34 CFR 99; 21 CFR parts 50, 56, 312, and 812; and 45 CFR 46).
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit sector is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal skills, as well as strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Must possess discretion and mature judgment as confidential information is routinely encountered.
  • Proficient with relevant computer programs.
  • High level of experience and comfort working independently with senior leadership, faculty, staff, students, medical professionals, and external agencies in complex organizations.
  • Ability to interpret laws and regulations to ensure overall protection of human participants.
  • Ability to handle multiple activities simultaneously and to effectively prioritize tasks and responsibilities.
  • Ability to acquire quickly a broad knowledge of Campbell University policies and procedures and FERPA guidelines.
