Job Description

UTHealth Houston is looking for an entry-level accountant to work with our Billing and Receivables department. This employee performs accounting assignments involving the preparation of financial statements and reports. The role applies accounting principles and procedures to ensure that financial reports and records are accurate and timely. The focus of this position will be on accounts receivable. Any experience with PeopleSoft or accounts receivable is preferred. This job will give you a chance to learn about financial analysis, reporting, and working functionally with other departments and state agencies.

You will be working a hybrid schedule - sometimes in the office and sometimes remote. This employee will report to our University Center Tower at the intersection of Fannin and Pressler in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.

Position Key Accountabilities:

1. Consolidate monthly revenue and expense figures to produce monthly financial statements so that departments may operate with accurate financial information.

2. Balances departmental ledgers with those of the Accounting or State Comptroller's Office by comparing the two and initiating adjustments so that accurate accounting records may be maintained.

3. Ensures that journal vouchers are prepared and transfers of funds are made so that monies and expenses are allocated to correct accounts in order to maintain accurate information for the departments.

4. Maintains accurate cash clearing accounts by comparing records of accounting and the Medical Service Research and Development Plan (MSRDP), checking for accuracy, and reconciling discrepancies.

5. Maintains departmental budgetary restraints by auditing deficit expenditures, notifying the department of the same, and assisting the department with account reconciliation so as to prevent deficit spending by a department.

6. Set up and administer accounts. Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the data.

7. Prepares financial statements and reports. Provides professional accounting skills to prepare financial statements and reports by applying accounting principles to the analysis of department revenues and expenditures. Monitors departmental revenues and expenditures and provides reports to departmental administrators and managers.

8. Interprets departmental financial statements and reports. Audit journal and/or spreadsheet entries and vouchers for errors, balance revenues and expenditures, reconcile accounts, and advise departments of deficit accounts.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or its equivalent with at least twenty-four (24) hours of college-level accounting credit.

Minimum Experience:

No experience is required.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
