Job Description:
The Laboratory Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting and executing routine testing within the R&D Microbiology and Particulate laboratory. This position involves generating protocols and reports, preparing samples for various tests, and managing preventive maintenance, calibration, and validation initiatives for laboratory equipment. The Laboratory Engineer will work under general direction, utilizing sound judgment to ensure compliance with established procedures while contributing to critical studies involving disinfection, microbial ingress, and particulate testing.
Responsibilities:
- Work under general direction from the Laboratory Manager and/or Scientists.
- Demonstrate competency by complying with established procedures.
- Develop protocols and reports for laboratory tests.
- Prepare samples for microbiological testing.
- Prepare samples for sub-visible particulate testing.
- Support disinfection and cleaning validation studies with BSL2 microorganisms.
- Assist in microbial ingress testing with BSL2 microorganisms.
- Support sub-visible, injected particulate testing.
- Perform microbiological sample processing via vacuum filtration.
- Conduct particulate sample processing via vacuum filtration.
- Validate laboratory processes according to provided procedures.
- Monitor equipment and environmental conditions daily.
- Maintain water purification systems.
- Prepare materials and glassware as needed.
- Review paperwork and scan/archiving of laboratory records.
- Undertake other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in a science or engineering discipline with 1-2 years of microbiology/chemistry laboratory experience.
- Ability to work under minimal direction while demonstrating compliance with established procedures.
- Proficient in PC computer systems including Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- High performance orientation with a commitment to completing objectives and taking pride in work.
Qualifications:
- Experience/knowledge of microbiological and particulate test method development and validation.
- Familiarity with purified water systems (design and operation).
- Proficiency in "wet-lab" skills such as pipetting, sample handling, liquid waste collection, and disposal.
