Job Description

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as the senior financial executive for a diversified commercial development company with operating businesses and significant investment activities. First Midwest Group and the Puri Family have a long history of direct and fund-based investments in private equity, venture capital, and public equities, spanning more than two decades. FMG Capital continues to seek opportunistic alpha-driven investments in the United States and across the globe. The CFO will provide strategic financial leadership, oversee complex financial and entity structures, and ensure fiscal discipline across development projects, operating businesses, and investment holdings. This role requires a forward-looking leader with deep experience in real estate development, investment management, and financial operations for complex organizations.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Develop and execute financial strategies aligned with company goals, balancing growth with risk management across development, operations, and investments.
  • Advise the executive team and board of directors on financial planning, investment opportunities, and risk management.
  • Lead capital raising efforts, including debt, equity, and structured financing, to support large-scale development projects and ongoing operational needs.
  • Provide financial insights to guide decision-making for acquisitions, dispositions, and portfolio management.

Investment and Entity Financial Management

  • Oversee accounting, reporting, and compliance for multiple businesses and investment vehicles, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
  • Implement best practices for entity structuring, intercompany transactions, tax planning, and consolidation.
  • Ensure timely preparation of financial statements, audits, and regulatory filings across development, operations, and investment holdings.

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Direct company-wide budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning.
  • Monitor performance across development projects, operating businesses, and investment holdings, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain pro forma models and financial projections to ensure feasibility and profitability.
  • Analyze market and portfolio performance to identify growth and efficiency opportunities.

Operational and Business Oversight

  • Provide financial oversight and partnership to operating businesses under company umbrella.
  • Establish KPIs to measure financial health and operational success across all business lines.
  • Partner with operational leaders to streamline processes, drive profitability, and ensure financial alignment with company strategy.

Governance, Controls and Risk Management

  • Establish and enforce robust internal controls, policies, and risk management frameworks.
  • Oversee liquidity, credit, and market risk exposures across the enterprise.
  • Ensure appropriate insurance coverage and compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Lead financial due diligence and risk assessments for acquisitions, investments, and partnerships.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance, accounting, and compliance teams.
  • Foster collaboration across departments, including development, operations, and investments.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Master’s degree or CPA/MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in commercial real estate development and/or operational businesses.
  • Deep expertise in commercial real estate development, investment management, and operating businesses.
  • Expertise in real estate financial modeling, pro forma development, and capital markets.
  • Strong understanding of revenue optimization strategies for real estate and operational ventures.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading finance teams and contributing to strategic growth initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel modeling.
