Overview The Cincinnati Regional Chamber is seeking a Director, Government Affairs to lead the Chamber’s state and federal advocacy work and oversee the Government Affairs & Advocacy team. This role reports to the Vice President of Civic Strategy & Policy and manages two team members focused on local government relations and events/programming. The Director will provide staff leadership to key Chamber committees related to government affairs and help articulate the Chamber’s advocacy positions through messaging, materials, and external communications. The successful candidate will balance strategic advocacy with team management, stakeholder engagement, communications, and committee support to keep the Chamber a leading voice for the region’s business community at the state and federal levels. Base pay range $85,000.00/yr - $110,000.00/yr Responsibilities Develop and execute the Chamber’s state and federal government affairs strategy, aligned with the Chamber’s mission and goals. Manage and mentor two team members, overseeing day-to-day operations to ensure effective advocacy and programming. Provide staff leadership and support for internal and external committees related to government affairs, ensuring members are informed, engaged, and positioned to advance policy goals. Represent the Chamber with state and federal policymakers, agencies, and partner organizations. Analyze proposed legislation and emerging policy issues, make recommendations, and implement advocacy strategies to achieve desired outcomes. Support coordination of major advocacy trips, meetings, and events with policymakers and stakeholders. Draft and support development of clear, compelling advocacy communications—including talking points, policy briefs, position statements, and member updates. Serve as a spokesperson and represent the Chamber in select public forums, media interactions, and communications opportunities. Collaborate with other Chamber departments to integrate advocacy work with broader organizational initiatives and communications. Partner with the VP on departmental budget planning, resource allocation, and internal goal setting to ensure alignment with Chamber priorities and efficient use of resources. Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations related to lobbying and political activity. Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Business, Communications, or a related field. Minimum 6–8 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, campaigns, or government service, with preference for association or business community experience. Strong knowledge of state and federal legislative and political processes; familiarity with local government issues is a plus. Exceptional communication skills, with demonstrated experience drafting advocacy materials, shaping messages, and engaging with external audiences. Demonstrated ability to manage and inspire a team. Proven track record of building relationships with elected officials, staff, business leaders, and community stakeholders. Work environment This position is located in a climate-controlled downtown office and requires a minimal amount of external activity. The role may require some evenings and weekends; a flexible work week is available to accommodate these instances. Travel is not required.
