Director of Communications and Marketing

Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Business Officer, the Director for Communications & Marketing leads the School of Liberal Arts (SLA) marketing and communications portfolio, including strategic communications and outreach, to internally engage with its core audiences and externally elevate and enhance its reputation as part of a leading Research I institution.
The Director leads the planning and coordination of designated school-based events. The Director serves as a member of the leadership team of the School of Liberal Arts and supervises (1) Associate Director, (1) Web Developer, (1) Communications Manager, and all external partners.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Competency with confident and dynamic strategic leader with experience directing and leading a team to set and achieve long-term strategies and goals
Advanced knowledge and experience in setting and leading content strategy, social media strategy, digital marketing strategy, and media relations strategies
Advanced knowledge of all current and emerging social media platforms and best practices
Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and tact in a professional setting
Experience working in a cross-team collaborative setting that values test-and-learn mindset
Entrepreneurial with the ability to spot unique marketing and communications opportunities
Ability to understand academic disciplines and translate their impact via compelling narrative
Excellent attention to detail and organizational and analytical skills; as well as the ability to prioritize assignments, address multiple tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively with diverse constituencies
Understanding of Adobe Creative Suite
Knowledge of Search engine optimization and web traffic metrics
Proven budget management experience
Required Education and/or Experience
Bachelors Degree in English, communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field At least 5 years experience in a marketing/communications/public relations role
Senior social media strategy and execution experience
Event-management experience
Proven supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
Masters Degree
Experience in a university setting
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 27.
