Job Description

Walters Balido & Crain, a mid-sized Texas-based civil litigation and insurance defense firm is seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant for its Houston office. We are looking for someone who works well individually and as part of a legal team. Candidate must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, experienced, hard-working, enthusiastic, and a team player. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.

Civil Defense Litigation preferred, but willing to train .

This position plays an intricate role in the day-to-day operations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Case management;
• Legal document preparation;
• Calendaring deadlines;
• Proofing and formatting documents;
• Speaking with clients and various courts;
• Scheduling/Calendaring - depositions, hearings, mediations, client meetings, and trials (scheduling proficiency is imperative);
• Assisting with discovery and document production; and
• Responding to unique attorney needs.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Civil defense litigation experience preferred but not required.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, be detail oriented, hard-working, enthusiastic and team oriented.
• Excellent communication skills, typing skills, computer skills, interpersonal skills, and professional appearance.
• Active knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure as well as knowledge and experience in preparing basic legal documents and pleadings.
• Electronically file in Federal and State courts.
