Job Description

OVERVIEW

The National Performance Network (NPN), a national nonprofit arts organization based in New Orleans, LA, seeks a finance manager for its operations department. The finance manager conducts the ongoing financial operations of NPN and plays a key role in interpreting and translating NPN’s financial story to ensure that organizational goals, objectives, and values are being met. The annual salary is $60,000 plus benefits that include full health insurance, generous PTO and holidays, annual retirement contribution, FSA, professional development, and more.

WORK

RELATIONSHIPS/ACCOUNTABILITY

  • The finance manager is part of NPN’s operations department. They report directly to the director of operations and offer thought-partnership around the organization’s fiscal health and planning.
  • The finance manager supervises NPN’s bookkeeper (a part-time contractor).
  • The finance manager will, at times, work directly with NPN’s Directors Circle (president & CEO and departmental directors) and engage with the board treasurer and finance committee.

COMMITMENT

  • The finance manager is expected to work an estimated 40 hours per week. It is understood that additional hours may be required at times; NPN provides for comp time.
  • The finance manager will attend staff and board meetings, staff retreats, annual conferences, and other meetings as deemed necessary (a mix of virtual and in-person). Some travel may be required.
  • NPN has a hybrid work environment, with a physical office space in New Orleans and a mix of in-person and remote staff. Our organizational culture prioritizes collegiality and connection, with some in-person activities required.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

All NPN staff are expected to uphold and engage with NPN’s mission and values, which center racial and cultural justice in our programs, policies, and practices. They are also expected to participate in opportunities to deepen and evolve how we uphold these values. These include organizational learning around social justice and political education, individual and group professional development training, and organizational and departmental planning and reflection activities.

The finance manager will:

  1. Manage basic financial functions of the organization, including:
  • banking, deposits, and monitoring accounts
  • billing/invoicing of vendors and customers
  • submitting payment requests to the bookkeeper
  • monitoring/updating the budget
  • credit card expense management system (SAP Concur)
  • implementing financials and fiscal fees for NPN’s Fiscal Sponsorship program
  • preparing quarterly financial reports for the board and department directors

2. Coordinate organizational budgeting process, long-term financial planning, and other financial forecasting, in conjunction with the director of operations

3. Supervise and direct external financial services, including bookkeeping and annual audit/990 with NPN’s accounting firm

4. Assist resource development needs, including working with the data and information associate to track/manage individual donations and assisting the resource development manager with financial reporting for grant reports and proposals

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • 5+ years of nonprofit financial management or related experience
  • In-depth experience with Quickbooks or comparable financial system(s)
  • Expertise in Excel or comparable spreadsheet software
  • Experience with non-profit audits
  • Experience with non-profit budgeting and financial projections
  • Ability to translate/contextualize financial data into a layperson’s perspective
  • Good communications skills and ability to work with a variety of constituents that may or may not have financial experience
