Overview Association Headquarters is searching for a Government Affairs Director to support our valued client partner. The Government Affairs Director is responsible for all Alliance legislative and regulatory activities within Washington, DC, as well as all state and international activity. This position is responsible for the direction and management of all legislative initiatives and for the execution of deliverables agreed upon in support of the association's strategic plan. The Government Affairs Director reports to the ED of the Alliance. The position may also work with the EVP of New Business Development in support of advancing AH's strategic plan and may also liaise with other AH client partner staff teams. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Work with Alliance Executive Staff, General Counsel, and key industry committee and volunteer leaders to develop, execute and advance the industry\'s Annual Regulatory Agenda Assist in the development of the agenda and action plan, with milestones for the execution of the annual regulatory agenda Identify and assess compatibility of potential coalition partners (TIA, NAM, RILA, AAFA, ACC, AAP, etc.) Provide quarterly reports on regulatory issues impacting the annual regulatory agenda and recommend any necessary refinements to strategy Identify and monitor federal and state regulations that relate to the agenda Provide timely analysis of relevant regulations to facilitate strategic discussion and actions Work with Executive Staff, lobbyist core, committee or task group leaders and volunteer leadership to craft industry\'s regulatory messages. Ensure the Alliance and individual staff members remain in compliance re: lobbying activity by filing quarterly and YE reports as appropriate Regulatory Communication Write a member-focused quarterly GA update with insight about regulations, legislative activity and related agency actions that have a direct impact on Alliance members Attend approximately four Alliance Board meetings annually and brief leaders on regulatory issues Attend Annual Summit (held in the spring in Washington, DC) and brief members and other constituents on regulatory issues Take lead on planning program and obtaining guest speakers for the Summit Provide ongoing strategic advice to Alliance Staff, Board and industry leaders on regulatory issues at the state, Federal and international level In collaboration with members, Executive Staff and General Counsel, craft and file comments on regulatory issues and federal rulemakings File comments and letters with appropriate parties on behalf of the Alliance Support media inquiries by sharing industry perspective on government affairs related topics Leadership support of the Alliance\'s government affairs committee Regulatory Agency Monitoring Provide detailed reports on Regulatory Agency visits Provide written reports of regulatory agency interactions to Executive Staff Attend meetings as appropriate which are held at regulatory agencies for any related issues (CPSC, NHTSA, FDA, etc.) Report back to Executive Staff and key volunteer leaders on substantive outcomes of those meetings Attend meetings on behalf of the Alliance and its members and provide brief reports Capitol Hill Monitoring Attend hearings and meetings as appropriate with Congressional staff Establish and maintain relationship with Member offices and their staffs (especially in key committees: House Energy and Commerce, Senate Commerce, the Appropriations Committees, House Ways and Means, and Senate Finance), to effectively communicate about the Alliance and educate about our issues and industry concerns Provide ongoing communication between Alliance Washington DC Staff and Congressional offices Plan and execute an annual fly-in / Hill Day for Alliance members, typically held in conjunction with the Summit This is not meant to be all-inclusive as other duties may be assigned. Education/ Experience/Required Proficiencies Bachelors degree required or a minimum of 10 years related industry experience. Language Skills Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form with management, internal and external customers. Reasoning Ability Demonstrate the ability to anticipate and solve practical problems or resolve issues. This position may require travel. This may include the ability to drive a car or travel on public transportation such as trains and airplanes.
