Anticipated Start Date January 2026 Position Summary The Library Assistant performs support services in one or more library functions in the library or learning resource center of a Community College which provides library services to students, faculty, staff and citizens. These functions may include: circulation; periodicals processing; acquisitions processing; interlibrary loans; reserves; on-line copy cataloging; basic reference and readers' advisory; and audio-visual equipment lending. The position provides services to assist the library in its support of the College's learning and instructional goals. The position may be required to provide coverage for the library at designated times in the absence of more senior positions. Responsibilities Circulation. Interlibrary loans. General public service. Additional Duties In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; service on assigned committees and task forces; attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in Library Technical Science or a subject area related to library services in the academic field with up to two (2) years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties. Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following: Experience with Librarianship functional areas. Experience with library patrons. Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.). Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of experience working in a library setting. Library experience working in an academic library. Experience providing circulation and technical services support in a library. Experience providing inter-library loan services support in a library. Starting Salary Minimum Salary Range: $48,103-$51,331 approximate annual plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits.
