Parks and Recreation Assistant Director. City of Cortez, Colorado (8,900 Population). Salary range $86,860 - $131,372. Benefits include health, dental, life and retirement. The Assistant Director supports the Park and Recreation Director in overseeing and developing the department's operations and managing significant projects and policy issues. The Assistant Director will partner with the Director to ensure the department provides quality services that meet community needs. The Parks and Recreation Department comprises six operational divisions: Parks, Golf, Aquatics, Youth Services, Recreation Center, and Administration. The P&R Team includes 27 full-time staff, 53 part-time staff, and approximately 64 seasonal staff. The operational budget is roughly $5.7 million, with approximately $1.5 million in planned projects for 2025. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in delivering several deferred maintenance projects, participating in the communitys first professionally developed Parks and Recreation Master Plan, assessing, developing, and implementing operational systems, and teaching, training, and growing the skills and capabilities of a recently installed and eager team. Necessary experience and education include a Bachelors of Science in Recreation, Leisure Services, Natural Resources, Management, Political Science, or equivalent, plus four years of progressive work-related experience and two years of supervisory experience. A Masters degree or a certificate as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional or Executive is preferred. Any equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.
