Responsible for assuring the continuous operation of essential patient services and rapid response to conditions that may interfere with such services. Responsible for the development and implementation of the Medical Center's Medical Equipment Management Plan. Responsible for the overall programmatic implementation of the Medical Device Protection Program (MDPP) within the purview of nationally mandated directives for information security as designated by the Office of Healthcare Technology Management (10NA9) and the OI&T Health Information Security Division (HISD). Initiates, modifies, and sets policy, procedures, standards and goals. Responsible for financial management of budget resources to support quality assurance and maintenance activities. Conducts capital asset and infrastructure planning for medical equipment spanning initial concept, installation, and effective implementation of complex medical systems. Analyzes organizational and operational problems and develops timely and economical solutions to meet facility, VISN and/or National needs. Conducts a medical equipment management program that meets current Joint Commission, NFPA and other pertinent regulatory requirements. Assure that facility medical equipment inventory is available for patient care activities. Manages a recall and safety alert program for medical devices, including medical device incident investigations to assure compliance with patient safety goals, SMDA and Joint Commission requirements. Responsible for the full range of personnel actions and organization design proposals recommended by the subordinate supervisors. Sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Serves as an advisor to senior clinical and leadership staff on medical technology, including existing and emerging technology, addressing viability, long-term suitability, compatibility, and/or safety. Serves as an institutional expert who directly supports the most complex and specialized clinical technology including service, system administration, training and quality assurance for multiple sites. Exercises significant responsibility in dealing with officials of other units or organizations, or in advising management officials of higher rank including physicians and clinical staff relating to technical matters.
