Job Summary:

The PCU/Stepdown Registered Nurse provides specialized care to patients requiring close monitoring and frequent assessment, typically those transitioning from intensive care or requiring more complex care than a general medical-surgical unit provides. The RN delivers safe, evidence-based nursing care, responds quickly to changes in patient conditions, and collaborates with the healthcare team to optimize outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care to moderately to critically ill patients in a stepdown or progressive care setting.
• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms, hemodynamic status, and vital signs; promptly recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
• Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and treatments according to physician orders and nursing protocols.
• Manage and operate specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, and oxygen delivery systems.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and post-hospital care.
• Document all care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Adhere to infection control and patient safety standards.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain clinical competence through ongoing education.

Qualifications:

• Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Licensure: Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State].
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Telemetry or critical care certification preferred.
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of acute care or PCU/Stepdown experience preferred.
  • Experience in telemetry, cardiac, or med-surg units strongly desired.
